Overriding the Assigned Pre-Assessment

Spark auto-assigns a pre-assessment to every group based on curriculum and grade level, but you can change it if the assigned one isn’t the right fit. Both Instructors and System Managers can review and override the pre-assessment from the Group Details page. For how the automatic choice is made, see How pre-assessments get assigned automatically.

Before You Start

  • Your group needs to exist and have students, since the pre-assessment is assigned as students are added. See How to create a group.
  • Do this before the first assessment session, so the correct pre-assessment is in place when you begin.

How to Override the Pre-Assessment

  1. Open the group. Go to your My Students view, find the group, and open its Group Details page.

  2. Find the assigned pre-assessment. The pre-assessment Spark selected is shown on the page. Review whether it matches what your group needs.

  3. Choose a different pre-assessment. Select the pre-assessment you want to use instead. Your choice replaces the auto-assigned one for the group.

What Happens After You Change It

The pre-assessment you select becomes the one your group will take. Because grade level locks once a pre-assessment is auto-assigned, override the assessment itself here rather than trying to change the group’s grade level.
