Sharing a Student with Another Instructor

In Spark, a student can receive support from more than one Instructor. When a student is assigned to you and to a colleague at the same school, you both see that student on your rosters and you both work from the same records. There’s no limit on how many Instructors a single student can be assigned to.

How to Share a Student

Sharing a student means assigning that student to another Instructor in addition to yourself. You do this through the normal assignment flow, either from the other Instructor’s Assigned Students tab or from the student’s own profile. The full steps live in How Students Get Assigned to Me.

Assignment is always scoped to a Program, and a student can only be shared with an Instructor who is part of a Program that student is in.

What Co-Instructors Can See

Once a student is assigned to more than one Instructor, the two of you share the same view of that student:

  • The student appears in each co-Instructor’s My Students table alongside their other students.
  • On the student’s record, every assigned Instructor is listed by name, so you can see exactly who else is working with that student.
  • Student tables across the platform - roster listings, group views, and session listings - show all assigned Instructors for a shared student.
  • Session History is visible to both of you. You can see the sessions your co-Instructor ran with the student, and they can see yours.
  • Progress Reports and Assessments are a single shared record per student. You both contribute to and view the same record, no matter how many Instructors are assigned.

A shared student may also belong to more than one group, potentially with a different Instructor in each. Listings reflect each group and Instructor pairing.

Removing a Shared Assignment

Unassigning is per Instructor. If you’re unassigned from a shared student, that student stays assigned to the other Instructor. When a student is archived, all Instructors are unassigned at once. See How Students Get Assigned to Me for the unassign steps.
