Renaming a Group with a Nickname

By default, a group is named after the students in it - a comma-separated list of their names. That works, but it gets hard to read as the group grows. A nickname is a friendly, custom name you can give a group so it’s easier to spot in your Groups list and at the top of session pages. Adding one is optional, and any Instructor assigned to the group can set or change it.

How to Add or Change a Nickname

  1. Open the group. From My Students -> Groups, click the group.

  2. Click Edit. The Edit action at the top of the Group Details page opens the group’s settings.

  3. Enter a nickname. Type a name that helps you recognize the group, like “Period 3 Reading” or “Tuesday Math Cohort.” Nicknames can be up to 100 characters.

  4. Click Save. The new name shows up right away in your Groups list and on the group’s pages.

What Happens If You Leave It Blank

If you don’t set a nickname, the group keeps its default name, the list of student names. You can add a nickname later at any time, and you can change or clear it whenever you like.
