Your Role and What You Can Do
As a Spark Instructor, your access in the platform is built around the students assigned to you. Most of what you’ll do day to day - assigning lessons, recording observations, reviewing progress - happens with that roster. Here’s what comes with the role, and where the edges are.
Working with Your Students
You can see and work with any student assigned to you. From the Students page you can:
- Open a student’s profile to review their sessions, lessons, observations, and notes.
- Create groups and manage membership for the students assigned to you. See How to Create a Group.
- Self-assign students who are part of a Program you’re already in. See How Students Get Assigned to Me.
- Bulk-import a list of students to assign to yourself via CSV. See Importing Students via CSV.
- Unassign yourself from a student you no longer work with.
A student can be assigned to more than one Instructor. When you share a student with a peer, both names appear on the student’s record and session history is visible to both of you. See Sharing a Student With Another Instructor.
Reading Reports for Your Students
The Reports page gives you read access to the Growth Report and individual Progress Reports for the students on your roster. Data is scoped to the students assigned to you - you won’t see anyone outside that roster. See Reading the Growth Report and Reading a Progress Report.
Looking Up School Faculty
The Faculty page is a read-only directory of staff at your school - principals, designees, and other Faculty - with their role, job title, email, and phone number. Use it to look up a colleague’s contact info. You can’t create or edit Faculty accounts from this page.
What’s Not in Your Role
A few things sit outside the Instructor role and are handled by your school’s Faculty or your Braintrust team:
- Creating or editing other Faculty members’ accounts.
- Assigning students to other Instructors. You can only assign students to yourself.
- Viewing students who aren’t assigned to you.
